Farooq Ameen, AIA, RIBA, Principal
Farooq Ameen is an urban designer and licensed architect with over 25 years of experience in urban design, architecture, planning, and project management in the US, Europe and Asia. In addition to the current focus, he has extensive project management experience of complex institutional, residential and commercial projects and a unique understanding of the development process from both the public agency as well as private investment perspective. Ameen is a recipient of awards and commendations for projects that include urban design and master planning of city centers as well as institutional, residential and mixed-use projects in California, Germany, and India. Recent projects include the Watts Central Avenue Master Plan, the North-West Neighborhood Master Plan in San Bernardino, Station-Area Planning for Metro several Transit Line Stations in Los Angeles, Campus Urban Design Plan for the South Asian University in New Delhi, India and Kigali Sub Area Planning in Rwanda.
Ameen is a member of the Executive Board of the A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and was a past member of the Advisory Committee of the City of Los Angeles General Plan Framework. Ameen studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and received a certificate in the Charrette Planning Program at the GSD, Harvard University. His works, writings, and exhibitions have been widely published. He has held academic appointments at various schools including Sci-Arc, the Bauhaus-Dessau in Germany, Calpoly Pomona, Woodbury University and is currently the Director of International Programs at the International Institute of Architecture (i2a) in Lugano, Switzerland.
